Work in Progress

I’ve always found it funny that for the most part, writers have no issues describing other people, places or things, but when it comes to one’s self they develop a horrible case of insecurity. Or worse, the dreaded writer’s block. Alas, I unfortunately am no different.

Bullet points, however, make everything easier:

• I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. Continue to be a permanent resident.
• Part Spanish, Portuguese with a splash of English and German make up my ethnic background. Still, my parents raised me as a Jamaican pickney. The majority of my family lived on (and some still live on) that island, hence the “pickney”, and my love for aki, saltfish, and johnnycakes. Regrettably I can speak neither spanish, portuguese, nor patois fluently.
• Happily single. I think.
• Aspiring novelist and professional writer in general. I might plan on attending school for journalism or public relations in the future, so for now I’m slaving away at the 9-5 (or in my case 9-midnight if you include my slef-prescribed writing projects).
• I have two cats babies: Felix and Muffin. Well, three I guess, but the other one is technically not mine, and he’s always cranky. Seem to enjoy keeping me company while I’m writing by sitting on my lap, the top of my desk, in front of the monitor, on my arms or on my keyboard (thanks Mr. Crankypants). Make good portable heaters on cold days or winter nights.
• I hate cooking, but love baking. Horrendously bad at both. I am however, good at eating. Learning to get better at the other two.
• I love yoga. It’s what keeps me going to the gym regularly. Never been big on the healthy eating bit (I’m working on it!), but I have always been, and love to be active.
• I used to draw and paint a lot. Need to get back on that.
• I am a hockey fanatic. When I was younger I used to play in a rep league, and I think that’s what stemmed this obsession I have with the sport. Not afraid to admit I’m a Leafs fan. Just don’t make any Lord Stanley jokes…
• I am a procrastinator. Also lazy. Part of the reason why this is a ”work in progress”, and not a finished work (the other part is the fact that this is a blog, and I’m supposed to update it regularly).
• I don’t update this/write often enough.

Likes : reading, sleeping, baking, sushi, yoga, my kitties, videogames, cookies, cupcakes and most sweet things in general, hockey, running, doodling, writing (obviously)

Dislikes :  people who splash gallons of water onto the bath mat outside the tub (I’m looking at YOU Sistah!), cleaning the kitchen, cooking, fast food, spiders (and most things with more than four legs – except shrimp, they’re cute and tasty), taking the GO Train, too much sauce on my pasta
